Set Dec Requirements

The set dec department is in charge of arranging the shooting set with furniture, decorations, and other graphic elements such as items like drapes, artwork, bed linens, dishes and anything else, to make the set a realistic environment.

Resume: Mandatory

Certifications CPR + Standard 1st Aid + AED: Recommended

Driver’s License: Recommended

E.T.C.P. recommended Elevated Work Platform (Lift): Recommended

Fiberglass: 1+ yrs experience recommended Forklift- Recommended

PAL – Firearms: Recommended

Propane Course – Record Of Training: Recommended

Welding Ticket: Recommended

Welding: 1+ yrs experience: Recommended

WHMIS: Mandatory

Worker-Health and Safety Awareness: Mandatory

Working at Heights: Recommended

WHAT TO BRING TO A CALL

Set Dressing Minimum Tool Kit:

  • tool carrying case (easily portable)
  • cordless drill, extra battery, selection of drill bits and driver heads
  • staple gun and staples
  • Pick-Quick multi-head screwdriver
  • allen key set
  • Olfa knife and extra blades
  • tape measure
  • small level
  • hammer
  • side cutters
  • crescent wrench
  • vice grips
  • tin snips
  • needle nose pliers
  • scissors (additional pair for fabric only!)
  • Sharpie marker, grease pencil, pen and pencil
  • notebook
  • wood saw
  • hack saw
  • small pry bar
  • metal ruler
  • window scraper (razor-blade style) and extra blades
  • couple of small rolls of stovepipe wire, picture wire, and plumbers’ strapping
  • selection of screws, nails, picture hooks, cup hooks, safety pins and push-pins
  • selection of tape: cloth, green, electrical, gaffers’
  • lighter
  • flashlight
  • magnet
  • CLEAN white gloves for moving fine furniture

Safety Equipment:

  • hard hat
  •  steel-toed safety boots (Green Patch – CSA-approved)
  • safety glasses
  • foul-weather/rain gear, CSA rubber boots
  • work gloves – sunscreen, hat
  • your own approved safety harness, if you own one, but not necessary

 (As there is limited room on set, do not bring a Set Dressing kit to an on-set call)

  • tool pouch – multi-tool (ie. Leatherman)
  • multidriver (ie. Picquic)

  • work gloves (preferably 2 pair)

  • sunglasses and hat (protection for working in the sun)
  • your own safety glasses if you have them.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray

Have you attended a post-secondary program or apprenticeship in your area of interest: Recommended

Name of a professional employed in the entertainment industry who is willing to be your reference: Recommended

Proof of one year or 200 days of experience in theatre, film or television in the selected trade: Recommended

Proof of two years or 400 days of work experience in the selected trade: Recommended

Display design / decorating: Recommended

Draper – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended

Florist – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended

Graphic Artist – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended

Knowledge of period designs / styles: Recommended

Landscaping – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended

Painter – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended

Training Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act: Recommended 

Upholsterer – more than 2 yrs experience: Recommended
