Grips Requirements

Utilizing flags, silks, reflectors, and a 5-ton-truck’s worth of other equipment, the Grip Department manipulates existing light to help the director of photography achieve a desired look. They also physically support other departments as necessary with rigging and temporary structural elements. The Grips department consist of the Key Grip, Best Boy, and Dolly Grip

Grip Profile Resume: Mandatory

Certifications CPR + Standard 1st Aid + AED: Recommended

Driver’s License: Recommended

E.T.C.P.: Recommended

Elevated Work Platform (Lift): mandatory

Forklift: Recommended

High Angle Rescue: Recommended

Machinist: 1+ yrs experience–Recommended

Piranha Lift: Recommended

Propane Course: Record Of Training–recommended

Telehandler Forklift: recommended

Welding Ticket: Recommended

Welding: 1+ yrs experience: recommended

WHMIS: Mandatory

Worker-Health and Safety Awareness: mandatory

Working at Height: Mandatory

Please confirm that you have all items in the required kit for Grip: Mandatory

Confirm that you have Green Patch safety boots: Mandatory

Have you attended a post-secondary program or apprenticeship in your area of interest: Recommended

Have you attended a workshop or seminar in your area of interest: Recommended 

Name of a professional employed in the entertainment industry who is willing to be your reference: Recommended

Proof of one year or 200 days of experience in theatre, film or television in the selected trade: Recommended

Proof of two years or 400 days of work experience in the selected trade: Recommended

Proof that you purchased “The Grip Book” by Michael G. Uva: Recommended 

Carpentry – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Electronics – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Ironworking – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Mechanics – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Rigging – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Steel fabricating / fitting – more than 1 yr experience: Recommended

Training Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act: recommended
