Makeup Requirements

Makeup artists work with makeup, hair, prosthetics, and special effects to create the characters look for appearing on screen. Their role is to manipulate an actors on screen appearance.

Resume: Mandatory

Certifications CPR + Standard 1st Aid + AED:  Recommended

Driver’s License: Recommended

E.T.C.P. :  Recommended

WHMIS: Mandatory

Worker-Health and Safety Awareness: Mandatory

Working at Heights: Recommended

Proof of one year or 200 days of experience in theatre, film or television in the selected trade: recommended

Proof of two years or 400 days of work experience in the selected trade: Recommended

Ageing with makeup/Ageing with Stretch & Stipple: Recommended

Corrective and Beauty Makeup: Recommended

Facial hair application both Hand laid & Ventilated techniques: Recommended

Makeup Effects including no less than Bald Cap application & Casualty simulation:  Recommended

Makeup for black & white Film and Still Photography: Recommended

Makeup Techniques for Film and Television: Mandatory

Training Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act: Recommended

Makeup Products

  • A wide spectrum of professional quality foundations in liquid, crème and cake forms that compliment any possible natural skin tones including body makeup.
  • A selection of corresponding contour and Highlight / Shading and contour shading colours.
  • A complimentary selection of cheek colours in cake and moist forms.
  • Pressed and loose setting powders.
  • A complimentary selection of lip colours. Finishes should vary from Stains to Matte to Frosts and High Gloss. A variety of Period accurate colours are also required.
  • A selection of tinted Lip gloss.
  • A complimentary selection of corresponding lip pencils.
  • Eye Shadow: A range of colours to suit a variety of looks from Corrective, Beauty, High fashion, Period to Fantasy. Finishes should vary from matte to frosts, including dry cake, water activated and crème colours.
  • Eyeliners in pencil form and cake varieties: Natural colours, Fashion, Period and Fantasy shades. ‐ Mascara: Black and Brown in waterproof and water soluble varieties. ‐ A variety of nail polishes from clear, natural tones to Period shades.

  • Casualty simulation including cuts, abrasions, bruising and burns.
  • Basic Ageing.
  • Breakdown (dirt, soot, grime)
